I have a few answers, so here are my fruit awards:
Best tasting: Mangoes. Just absolutely delightful. Perfect sweet and sour combo.
Best price to proportion ratio: Pineapples. Bruh $2.50 for ALL OF THAT. Absolutely. Flavor also killer - I’m a citrus slut [edit. It’s spiritually citric because it’s spicy, but yeah not actually citrus]
Best “wtf is that” award: Dragon fruits. They taste great, they’re their own bowls as you cut them in half and eat them with a spoon, and the red ones dye my shit red which just entertains me tbh.
Most refreshing award: Watermelons. Whether I come home tired from a workout or am sitting at a beach - I feel like life is okay again when I eat some watermelon slices.
Best on-the-go snack: Pears. Not quite the appeal of apples flavor-wise, but it’s like 80% there without the offensive CRONCH like that dickhead who decided to eat an apple in a quiet room.
Best Charcuterie board addition: Grapes. Fml I remember that grapes and cheese is a combo and eat nothing but that shit for a week straight.
What kind of fetish is this?
I can’t get over citrus slut
Bruh I can't even get over his name
Have you seen his banana telephone photo..?
Enough internet for today
This man won this thread and it wasn't even a competition.
That bagel hole will take all the citrus you can give it
What do you have against bagels, donutzer?
That lemon stealing whore!
I was going to comment but damn dude you summed it up pretty good. One thing is perfectly clear to me this Redditor fruits
I came here to fight anyone talking shit on the golden god that is mango and here you are just preaching the gospel. Carry on my brother!
Mango is heaven to me
I didn't think I liked mango until I finally had a ripe one. Now I know.
Amen. The hard, picked way too early variety found in most US grocery stores just don’t do the mango justice. Getting one that’s truly ripe and fresh off a local fruit stand on the side of the road near where they actually grow natively is simply mind blowing. Fond memories here of visiting Costa Rica when mangos are in season…
I laughed way too hard at ‘I’m a citrus slut’.
The best bit 😂😂
This guy fruits
But where is he getting $2.50 pineapples? And where is he that peaes don't taste better than apples?
This is the best fruit ranking I’ve come across in some time 11/10
I agree with everything except pears taste better than apples
Also, I feel like a ripe pear is too juicy for an on-the-go snack.
Those pears Harry and David sell at Christmas time have spectacular flavor whatever variety they are.
Good list, but in what strange world is pineapple a citrus fruit?
Pineapples are not citrus.
Perhaps acid slut is a better term. Acidic fruit slut.
Feels like I’m taking crazy pills. Why isn’t this being called out more?
Have you ever had an Asian pear? Not an offensive CRONCH, but a satisfying one. Also, excellent flavor.
I agree with most of the above when you take categories individually, but the ultimate combo has to be the banana, great taste, increadably easy to peel, no sticky fingers, and the peel can be used to make your archnemesis slide into a nearby deathtrap. Great on the go and still nice to eat when at home too.
Any anyone who dares dispute this fact can fight me. I'm covered in banana peels, trying to punch me in the face? WHOOPS, guess it just slipped of me and hit the spike on the wall (it's a spiky wall, deal with it), wanna kick me in the nuts? You're now so slippery that you're spinning until you vomit, all i have to do is go outside of your vomitradius and you'll tire yourself out, checkmate other weaker frutists.
grapes- bite sized, delicious
Anything eaten at peak ripeness
Nothing worse biting into some dry, mealy, flavourless fruit
Green apples is the only fruit that is good when its not ripe
I only like plum when it's still green a little bit. More sour and harder texture.
I ate those bad boys in Thailand, so good.
This. Everyone should know of this fruit's existence.
The best where they are grown. Loved them in the Philippines. Every one I’ve tried to buy at a supermarket in the US was nasty.
Came here to say this. They are phenomenal.
I know what is a mango, what is mangosteen?
[Had to look it up too](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mangosteen)
Oh wait, i know this, just did t know the English name lol
I agree. But only peaches that have been allowed to fully develop and ripen on the tree. Peaches that are round, fully fleshed out, perfectly juicy, practically bursting with perfection. You can't stack these peaches or they will bruise.
They don't transport well, so you'll never experience a perfect peach if you live too far away from where they are grown. So they can only be perfect in summer. Only made better with homemade ice cream.
Peaches from the store are usually no-flavor garbage fruits so when summer comes around I'm buying up everything they have a the farmer's market
In my area you can get good ones from the grocery store, but only in season from local growers and you have to know how to pick them.
Millions of peaches
Peaches for me
Peaches for free
*cue the ninjas*
Heard they come from a can. And we're put there by a man.
INNNAAA FACTORY DOWNTOWNNNNNN
Good peaches are amaze balls, bad peaches are the ultimate disappointment
Nectarines for me! I dislike the fuzz on peaches
I gotta say peaches just might be the best.
when its grown in the tropics
"I JUS' WANN'ED SOME FUCKIN' MANGOES MAN!!!"
Can the tree even survive the cold weather outside tropical environments?
I'm in iowa and I knew a farmer who was talking about growing local avocados in his green house
Can you pay a rainbow to be less beautiful? No! Such is Mango!
Philippine Mangoes are the best.
\*India has entered the chat\*
I'd give my right arm for some lilikoi butter right now.
I literally will try anything that’s flavored with passion fruit. Love it so much.
Raspberries. No prep
This is a lonely comment, props to raspberries, my favorite of the fake berry club
I feel like raspberries go bad so quickly. And majority of the ones you buy at the supermarket have zero flavour
Yep. But when they're just right... amazing
I like to freeze em and put in my yogurt
I was spoiled by a raspberry garden when I was younger; I would eat a cereal bowl of frozen red and golden raspberries almost every day because we froze so many each year.
Now that would be as expensive as a light cigarette habit fml
Mmm Raspberries. Those amazing soft little bastards melt in your mouth❤️
Raspberries! I have some issues with them going bad quickly, but they are so tasty. Also, nothing will beat the wild raspberries I had at summer camp in the mountains.
The milky way smells like rum and tastes like raspberries
Hard to get, expensive, and messy, but damn good
We call them custard apples here! They are so good.
I'm in Korea right now and just saw a pack of 6 as big as your fist! $150 for the box. It's about to be Lunar New Years and I guess giant, immaculate fruit is a baller gift to give.
Crazy! I’m in Australia and you can buy a punnet from $2 - $7 depending on the season
Regular strawberries sell for about that in Korea. I'm talking about 6 strawberries bigger and more immaculate than you've ever seen in your life. Wrapped up in fancy shit and a gift box.
Yeah it’s all about presentation - those Asian fruit boxes. Taste is the same, they just like how perfect they look. Fruit is just a big deal in Asian countries. It’s prominent as Asian weddings with a ritual of giving fruit to the in laws and the types of fruit and having an altar with fruit for ancestors and gods. I went to a Korean dance club and each booth had a phone and groups of males would call groups of females to dance. We did not have to pay much since the men pay for drinks. And at the end, the waitress charges the men’s table hundreds of dollars for a basket of fruit and the women get to take the fruit home. I found all this interesting since I am Asian but not Korean. So if you complain about ladies night having no entry fee, you probably won’t like these clubs.
This is so underrated.
Apples, there’s so many different ones for so many different tastes.
Plus they keep the Doctor away
finally found this comment. these are in my top 3 for sure.
Rainier cherries too! Delicious.
Neil Patrick Harris, I fucking love that guy
Fuck you, you fucking asshole, that shit isn’t funny.
It’s obviously Sir Elton John. How dare you.
Speaking of fucking assholes...
Don’t mind if I do!
You are both wrong. The correct answer is Neil Patrick Harris playing sir Elton John CAUSE HE IS THAT FUCKING GOOD
Oooooh a good persimmon is sweet like honey and has a texture I've never been able to find anywhere else.
A bad persimmon is like I ate a bunch of grape skins.
Try the Fuyu ones they are not astringent like regular persimmons that are not at peak ripeness. They are not as sweet but crunchy like an apple.
Banana (easy to peel)
Finally! I'm surprised I had to scroll this far down to find another banana lover.
The only downside to bananas is, for me, their window of goodness is very limited as they have to be soft but not...too soft. Usually 3ish days
Easy to peel, easy to eat, delicious.
Can do so much with them too (banoffee pie, frozen bananas, banana pudding, banana pancakes, etc., and where i'm from banana cue, turon, among others)
And delicious! My fave honestly 😍
Pomegranate and it’s not even close.
not for the fruit layman, but truly the king of fruits. can't name another fruit that imprisoned a goddess in hell for an entire season.
I guess you could argue apple, but that bitch Eve had it comin', am I right Old Testifiers!?!
High work to reward, but yeah. Not even close.
To be honest, the work is part of the reason pomegranates are my favorite fruit. It’s a whole experience. The feeling of tearing it apart, the little plinking sound of the seeds hitting the bowl… It’s meditative.
Came here to show my poms some love. The most horrible “to-go” fruit ever but SO, so good.
Tunas Rojas, red cactus fruit. I used to get them at this little Hispanic market in a town I used to live; they were so cheap and so good! Tunas verdes were amazing too; you could easily fill up on them. 😇
Tangerine or Grapes.
A bowl of clean grapes. My take too. Little balls of pure fruit goodness. Blueberries/strawberries/raspberries are great too when it comes to that, but they can be expensive, and grapes are juicier/or waterier, which I kinda like with fruit. Similar to a watermelon but that has the rind. Give me an entire watermelon with no rind and maybe that’s my choice. Or a watermelon sized orange with no rind.
It's been scientifically proven it's Mango, Cherries, Watermelon and Peaches
Could you provide the study? Sounds interesting!
Love the banan. Be the banan
Paw paw or Jack fruit
Tomato, think about what many dishes would be like without tomatoes
Knowledge is knowing tomato is a fruit
Wisdom is not putting one in a fruit salad
I came to post tomatoes. I keep a little bowl of cherry tomatoes to snack on, and those little flavor bombs pack more punch than any other fruits!
And think about pasta with tomato sauce, and pizza, and chili.. if we lost any other fruit would we lose so many iconic meals? heck no!
This is underrated
I work in the kiwifruit industry and like the gold kiwifruit the most. Cause I get them for free I eat them for about 8 months of the year. We start harvest in about 6 weeks so there'll be fresh NZ kiwifruit heading your way soon.
I first tried them in Thailand. The most delicious thing I've eaten. Tried them back home...egh. Very bland.
Everything tastes better when it’s eaten where it’s grown
I've heard of them but can't find them where I live. What do mangosteens taste like?
Like mangos but steenier.
They are like a tarter lychee with the texture of a perfectly ripe plum/peach. So fucking good when they are fresh (basically have to be in southeast asia)
Yes! I had these in Asia and could not get enough. Sweet and tangy with an indescribable flavor.
It makes "life" taste sweet lol
We all know why
Yes we do
I tried a custard apple for the first time only a few years ago and love them. I have a small tree now that I've planted in my yard a couple years ago. I think I'm still another 2 or 3 years away from it producing fruit though. I can't wait
People who have never tried this are really missing out, the first time i had it it felt like a vanilla cinnamon apple ice cream
Especially those little easy peel mandarin oranges that come in the mesh bag. Man oh man they’re perfect.
I, a man of culture, prefer Tangelos and Blood Oranges
In my weed smoking days, I used to love oranges. They're somewhat healthy, and they help with both the munchies, and cottonmouth. So much better than filling my gut with junk food and soda.
Like most, I'm a big fan of most of the common fruits: berries, mangoes, peaches...
But I DREAM about loquats. Loquat trees became very popular in my country in the 1960s and they spread rapidly so they were all through the suburbs. Every year when loquat season came around I would hop from yard to yard literally making myself sick eating buckets of loquats. Most people didn't even realise the fruits were edible so left the fruit to rot
The trees were eventually declared a weed in some areas. Many also ripped them out to prevent the spread of fruit fly so I haven't had loquats in a few years but I literally DREAM about them. There's not much I wouldn't do to eat a bucket of loquats right now...
I came here to see if someone said loquats. Disappointed I had to scroll so far.
Loquats are incredible! Trees with fruit that you can reach from the ground are hard to come by now where I live because assholes would break off a whole branch to eat while they walked home from school. Although, even 25 years ago as a child I had to climb the trees or on a roof to get the best of the bunch. I was always sent up with a pouch to fill for all of us because I was the smallest.
The best trees are on private property. Good thing I know someone with a a few big trees in their yard so I can get plenty!! I've been watching them grow recently, they'll start ripening real soon! I'll be ready for them.
Mango and Pineapple
Blueberries, its the only blue fruit
Disagree on the only blue fruit part. Plums are definitely blue at times too, although both blueberries and plums are more often purple
The question asked for "fruit," not the best chemical weapon!
Chemical weapon? It smells divine. What you on about >:3
Almost every variety. Sweet and refreshing.
Wild mountain black berries. Grow on vines low on the ground, small and the sweetest fruit I’ve ever had
[wild mountain blackberry](https://nwwildfoods.com/articles/little-wild-mountain-blackberry/)
Had to scroll way too far for this
I still haven’t seen tunas, I don’t know the English name but they’re a cactus fruit. There are tunas verdes and tunas rojas.
But guava is also the bomb.
tuna is fish.
fish are friends.
On a hot summers day, taking cold lychees out of the fridge and snacking on them is the BEST thing
Honey crisp apples
Fuyu persimmons...or maybe lychee... ❤️
Yup. It's bangin and it hydrates
Orange with Tajin.
Strawberries from my garden
And Tangelos as well for the win. Citrus homies unite!
Mangos and strawberries
Guaba (ice cream bean fruit)
I love the love for mangoes in this thread
Mango and Kiwifruit
Where my pear 🍐 squad at I honestly love all fruits they are all amazing in their own way
Rambutan and mangoes
Fruits of my labor I tell you hwat
The forbidden fruit
