No, phones are not confiscated. There is no restriction on communicating with outside world. But because of the nature of the program, it's best to minimise such engagements. For more info, you can mail the Sadhanapada contact mail.

Thank you! I want her to get as much from the program as she can and we don’t plan to talk more than needed, but it’s a relief to know that that judgement will be left to us.

Firstly, Congratulations to your wife on getting selected and wishing her all the best for this life changing journey! I completed Sadhanapada this year. They do not confiscate the participants' phones and there are no such rules of weekly or monthly calls. If your wife will be attending an advanced program like Shoonya or 3-days silence, then for those specific days she'll have to submit her phone and will get it back at the end of the program. Also, the schedule and nature of Sadhanapada is such that you'll hardly find time to have phone conversations. They also say, that the purpose of this program is to turn inward, so it is best that in these 7 months, you minimize your communication not just with the outside world, but even with the people within the ashram and learn to be alone. I followed this advice and although it was difficult for me and my family, silence really brought me a lot of clarity and balance and improved my relationship with them at the end of the program.

Thanks for the info! Of course I want her to get as much from the program as possible and do not plan on speaking more than necessary. But, it is relieving to know we won't be inhibited on coordinating the few things we'll need to over the next several months. Also it's great to hear another positive experience from someone who's been through the program. She's a bit anxious because she's leaving her job and everything else for such a long time. But our intuition is that it will be a great and challenging experience.
