Crazy how he’s going to revive his career here

pugsftw

Perhaps a MF that scores some goals? Dayumm *Perhaps scoring isn't his strongest with 26 in 230. But that CL solo goal...

Floundur

I don’t know why I read this as “a mf’er” in a Sam Jackson voice

AdditionalStrain7

Same.

Avocadoor

Kante/J5/Kovacic had 23 total goal with 11 of them being penalty... Besides he is also left footed!

pugsftw

That's what I thought at first, still, he gets like one every 8 games. More than the other lads

Mannyc96

He’s not really known for goal scoring at all unfortunately :/

blue_mark

He's played a whopping 447 games for Atletico. That's a ridiculously high number for a 26 year old. Can we be excited about this?

__sovereign__

I think he will work out well. He's a hard worker, versatile, good on the ball and he can also dribble pretty well. Also, it will be interesting to see him play outside Simeone's system. Of course it all remains to be seen, but I am quite excited, this has the potential to be a Kovacic like signing. Late edit: guess I was wrong lol.

[deleted]

What about negatives? Curious how he was so seemingly easy to pry away for a team with a pretty packed mid field of talent

ComfortablyIncomodo

He wanted to play in midfield, he talked with Simeone last year about it and he was still being played out of his prefered position last season, given that he felt like he wasn't growing and performing to the best of his ability as a player, so I guess that's why Atleti wanted to move him, he didn't know about it (or so he said), he said this in an interview with Ibai on twitch

[deleted]

Great feedback, thanks!

pievendor

He wants to play CM, but since Athleti has switched formations he's been playing LWB. He wanted to go.

[deleted]

Thanks!

NijjioN

He is having eating problems I heard, he can't find a diet that works for good energy lately. Saw it on another comment on here, think he talked about it on the twitch interview last night. Also to add he was hoping a team like Chelsea would find other ways to help him with this aspect of his life/playing capabilities.

the_cellar_d00r

Our new team nutritionist Romelu Lukaku will have him sorted out in no time. https://www.the-sun.com/sport/premier-league/2500595/lukaku-diet-inter-milan-gnocchi/

NijjioN

Supposedly Lukaku is one of the Spanish speakers in the team so that is good.

Esketit26_V2

I thought this was gonna be the pic of lukaku at a u16 game and he’s just massive compared to the other kid

WuggleBee

I think we certainly can. That sort of experience, especially in a tactically rigourous Simeone side, will be invaluable to Tuchel I think.

_faraleth_

he was the reason I started to follow Atletico too in 2016

jeffmendezz98

Take care of him for us :(

BrockStinky

You an Atlético fan? Mind giving us an idea about where his capabilities are now?

jeffmendezz98

At a point the club gave him a 9 year contract and 150 million release clause and Atleti fans all thought it was cheap… that’s how good he can be. He fell off a little and Simeone started using him to plug in holes everywhere and he never got a chance to get back to his best. I think he just needed a scenery change, if he gets back to his best he’s good enough to start at any team in the world, I’m sure of it. Big “If” tho

Remy13Hadley

saw someone said that his physique has gotten worse every year since his liver damage in 2017. Do you notice the same thing or you still think that his workrate is still good?

DJRhetorik

Liver damage?

Remy13Hadley

there is a post detailing his serious injury that damaged his liver in 2017. I think he suffered quite a bit from it.

lukekarts

Kidney: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2017/sep/26/saul-niguez-atletico-madrid-chelsea-champions-league

cornthunder

Chelsea fans should read this ^ Great insight into his personality

KroosKontroller

What are his best attributes?

Anti_Shoogle

He speaks good Spanish

joeentendu

he’s p good looking

andrewgard8

SexyFC still on the menu boys

Max_Eon

Perfect replacement for Giroud

enjoytheshow

No such thing exists

nickelchrome

work rate, second to none this guy runs his heart out every game. versatility, a bit of a Jack of all trades can score goals

Matlarzer

Great signing to provide some much needed midfield depth. He hasn't been at his best these past couple seasons at Atleti so let's temper our expectations but if anyone can revive him it's Tommy tactics. Hola Saul

rolledoff

Tuchel specifically wanted him, so I'm sure he has his reasons. He's a high work rate player like everyone else in the team

ImmanuelKante

“Blues fans, I am one of you now” already proper chels

Mysticpeaks101

Quite excited by this. I hear he hasn't been in great form recently but Koke and Saul were the big names during Atleti's last decade so let's see how it pans out.

matt3633_

Niguez in London

SurpriseHanzo

Imagine if this was the Tagline for the signing.

RohitM13

It's provocative. It gets the people going...

matt3633_

Trust chelsea of all clubs to sign someone who's surname coincides with a racial slur

RohitM13

That shit cray

Nevinhooo

Let’s hope he balls so hard mfs wanna fine him

fakugubi36

idk why, usually these lyric chains are corny, but this made me chuckle.

OMG_Alien

The amount of times this deal was happening then not happening was crazy. Thank fuck it’s finally over.

RedGreenBoy

So what happened to this guy that Athletico is willing to loan/sell him out? I thought he was their version of Mase?

nickelchrome

Simeone is addicted to signing midfielders, so at some point we ended up with too many. He started trying to make it all work. Saul wants to play the CM/MF role, Simeone has been plugging him in all over, even LB. I think he’s felt he hasn’t been able to thrive under the new system and largely has felt disconnected from it compared to how he used to play. I think talent wise it’s all there though

RedGreenBoy

Thanks for the insight - I don’t really follow La Liga, but I have heard of Saul - was really surprised that such a talent is out on loan

RonMexico_hodler

Don’t know much but kind of reminds me of Raul miereles signing for some reason

admiralawkward

Fully operational death star

Konrad05

YESSSS, what a weird fucking signing lol

fuckyouidontneedone

Especially with the transfer being closed and all.

Vicar13

He was signed before the window closed, what do you mean

fuckyouidontneedone

look at his post history. he was talking out of his ass in the threads at 11pm saying it was over the window closed and when he was told he was wrong he refused to accept it. jms was spouting the same bs

AndersCules

I love how people assume we get news on the inner workings of secret negotiations in real time. “Welp it’s one minute past and this Twitter guy based in a different country hasn’t said it’s on, so I guess deal’s off.”

Vicar13

LOL poor Konrad having a mare

Papaipap

Midfield problem, better call Saul!

greeneggsnhammy

Problem Saul-ved.

michealxlr

Lmao get out

Bladerslash

Hola saul, como esta? Bienvenido a Chelsea FC. _ duolingo ;)_

SubparCurmudgeon

Better call my mom

SubparCurmudgeon

Saulginho pivot

johnwittbrodt

Thank fuck.

niggynico

Does this mean he’ll get a face scan on fifa

cdnmfd

It’s Saul Goodman.

Status-Dare1085

Actually gassed for this one. Thought he was a lot older than he is and I’m excited to see if he can get back to his best because he’d slot right into our setup. Him and Kante as double 6s is going to be some bullshit. We were, Sevilla not acting like total wankers, away from having the perfect window to follow up last years window and the CL win.

TheUbermelon

As good as Kounde was I agree with not spending 80 milion euros on him when we have Chalobah who looks good.

parmo_03

The best thing we will need to watch or assist from all his dribbling and scoring is his mental strength… If he can perform at Chelsea and EPL where you get very less time to settle then boy we have got a proper PLAYER!!!

SubparCurmudgeon

Saulante pivot

SubparCurmudgeon

Kovaul pivot

CoconutHeadGuy

🙌

Stand_On_It

Wonder what number he’ll select

KroosKontroller

17

xTrollhunter

I've been wanting Saul for years, but thought of it as highly unlikely for a long time. I hope Tommy T can make him the dominant midfielder that he was some years ago again.

Seekerofthetruetrue

Got bags of experience at the deep end of title races/tournaments. Could be an upgrade on Kova for 30 odd mill which is absurdly good business

fakugubi36

Do we now have the best midfield in the world?

wirelesscowboy

So he will be substitute or what? Why Chelsea gave up on Loftus cheek. How's Saul gonna play? It's kovacic-Kante-Jorginho
