"In other news, in order to meet its own racial quotas, the government of Canada is going back to considering the Irish and Slavs not white" But seriously though, what the fuck is the point of our own national broadcaster if they're so American-obsessed? Why view our own nation through the lens of imported labels like BIPOC? Or do the CBC even realize what the demographics of this country are? Pathetic. If the CBC thinks that this is a good way to deal with the Michelle Latimer controversy, they better get ready because there are going to be a lot more like her. Remember folks, there is nothing more important than your race. It is the most important thing about you. Nothing else matters. No way that this could backfire.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_Canada#Visible_minority_population In 2016, European was 72.9%. And it's been trending down for decades so seems fairly proportional.

Do you think private broadcasters care about telling minority stories if it doesn't make a profit? (Which, usually don't since a majority won't watch or wont champion it) That's why the public broadcaster does it. It's that simple.

TheGuineaPig21

Yes, the CBC, a well-known money-maker. The CBC, which catches an absolutely *tiny* share of the television market despite its budget.

I'm pretty sure that private broadcasters want to produce shows that a large segment of the population want to watch, which in turns generates profit (>viewership = profit). Hopefully this initiative will produce shows that large segments of the population want to watch, but nothing is gained if a money losing public broadcaster produces programs that next to nobody watches, all in pursuit of ever more wokeness. For most of my life I have supported a well-funded CBC (and chafed at attempts to strangle its funding), but after the last few years of questionable leadership (most certainly including the nonsense going on at Radio Canada International) I am coming around to letting it get de-funded and watching it become even more irrelevant.

What do you mean nothing is gained? > For most of my life I have supported a well-funded CBC (and chafed at attempts to strangle its funding), but after the last few years of questionable leadership (most certainly including the nonsense going on at Radio Canada International) I am coming around to letting it get de-funded and watching it become even more irrelevant. /r/asaCBCsupporter

What exactly *is the gain* when a money-losing public broadcaster produces programming that next to nobody watches? I'm not being rhetorical here, what is the benefit from doing that?

TheIndianUser

Are you saying that we shouldn’t used the BIPOC because it is also used in America? We also have Black, Indigenous, and other people of colour in Canada. The whole phrase is a mouthful. It’s much easier to use an acronym.

[There are newer controversies than that.](https://time.com/6072074/kims-convenience-racism/)
