San Francisco Shock vs Shanghai Dragons | Overwatch League 2021 Season | Playoffs: Tournament | Post-Match Discussion

Mecha-Jesus

Fleta saved King's Row by blocking Dva bomb with Rein shield and interrupting Choi's remech with shatter, all in the last second of his ult. What the fuck.

Ezraah

He's honestly MVP quality this year I feel

jail_is_just_a_room

He really MVP quality this year sick tracer pulse bomb on Vols/Anubis, the 4K echo/genji on Hollywood, the 2K dva bomb vs chengdu on SS Final. I really feel like he a better player this year than last year tbh don't know why people less mention him this year

tungns91

I think Fleta is one of greatest players of all times. He consistently being the top tier SSS dps from SEASON 1. No dps player still be that good from SEASON 1.

obigespritzt

Profit. Not saying he's better or worse than Fleta, all time or atm. But they're both elite.

JustRecentlyI

It's insane to see such performances, especially being sustained like that! In addition to Profit, Birdring and Carpe who other comments have named, Striker deserves mention as a similarly elite player until he retired.

AdminMe_666

I nominate Birdring.

Redsqa

**Overheard in the Shock's room after Game 3:** “He got me,” Super said of Fleta's charge onto him. "That f***ing Fleta boomed me." Super added, “He’s so good,” repeating it four times. Super then said he wanted to add Fleta to the list of players he scrims with this winter.

communis-tdoggo

>be coach moon of the shanghai dragons >walk into opponent selection and pick the 2 time champs as your first round opponent >3-0 them >Leave

themd

*Fleta

JCNoles

I think you mean Fleta, Leave is on the Hunters /s

SirBilliam3

Moon looking mighty smug right about now

throwawayrepost13579

An absolute statement pick.

spicydildo

Salty run back still makes you salty But hey they look fucking elite so ggs

Ketriaava

Hey I'd be salty too if I lost in final 4 playoffs because of a fucking Roadhog main tank meta on playoffs patch lol

Is_J_a_Name

Fleta and Lip are just ridiculous. Outright the best DPS duo in the league.

heslo_rb26

Why I thought Lip was robbed for MVP but if anyone was gonna take it off him I'm glad it was Leave

Gadjjet

Leave taking it off him is just recency bias tbh. Lip has been the best player in the league all season.

oaklandasfan

I think Lip was slightly better but i thought leave was more valuable to his teams success. You replace lip with the league average dps and Shanghai is still the best team in apac. You replace leave with a league average dps and chengdu might not make it to playoffs

inspcs

You replace lip with the league average dps and ~~Shanghai is still the best team in apac~~ Dallas win the June Joust, cementing Fearless as League MVP this season as leader of Fuel and two time tournament winner.

Ph4sor

> I think Lip was slightly better but i thought leave was more valuable to his teams success. Not really, Shanghai tried to tinker putting Diem as rotation before, and it ended not pretty for them. And Diem is probably the best hitscan available with Ans. Lip just have that special thing which made Shanghai dominant, no matter how much EMP and Bombs he whiffed, Shanghai always look much better with him in the starting.

tnecniv43208

Probably bonus points for Leave because he had to play with Jimmy while Fleta is always there

heslo_rb26

I'd tend to agree but at least there's merit in saying he deserved it too

pandakun233

Fleta Diff. That Rein duplication is insane

t-had

Jesus Christ.... King's Row 3rd was a series in it's own.

littlemochasheep

I could *hear* Super when he got charged out of shatter

rilertiley19

"NO WAAaaAay!"

1trickana

Could also hear him when he got slept and dva bombed

lyerhis

That was the most Super thing that could have happened to him in an actual match.

1trickana

Can't wait for the stream where he analyses it and blames it on Hawaii lag /s

Finklemeire

When was Super in the Atlanta Reign

jail_is_just_a_room

You sir you make me laugh deserve my upvote

Shadowciaw

this was legendary

Billz2me

His sadness was audible

who-ly-oh

I heard the voice crack from here

Army88strong

Fleta fucking team diffed the Shock. Like, holy fucking shit

bbistheman

And they didn't give him player on the match lol

konadora

to think Seoul still pepega-ed with such a player

jail_is_just_a_room

What the fuck with Seoul tbh? Had Fleta and Lunatic Hai for 2 season still mid team and Playoff Profit and half of player of Season 1 Champion team but still...

royy2010

Fleta had a phenominal game lol

Pachanas

Shock actually looked pretty good. Shanghai are just disgustingly good. As a Seoul fan, it kills me that we had Fleta for two years and accomplished NOTHING with him.

KandoTor

Shock looked pretty good if you completely wipe Hanamura from your brain. They looked lost for that whole map.

Ketriaava

I don't understand why you would ever counterpick Hanamura against Dragons. That's the map they've been most dominant on since Season 3. That map gave me flashbacks to their first stomping of Dynasty last year.

FerPlays

Cus Shock are (were?) just as confident on Hanamura. They have a pretty good winrate on the map but idk the exact number

The_Lifeof_Pablo

they’ve only lost Hanamura 4 times since getting crusty in season 1 stage 4

JCNoles

Agreed. Both other maps could’ve gone either way but god….. Hanamura was just horrible

helladudehella

I grew up in Ohio during LeBron's first stint in Cleveland, I know your pain

DownIndie

Remember when they benched Fleta so that illicit could play pharah the entire map and do nothing. Awful times.

Urbain19

NO they didn’t did they?? (I wasn’t around at that time, just why would you bench fleta?)

Ph4sor

> it kills me that we had Fleta for two years Well, it killed me when they benched Fleta instead of playing around him when something wrong

Frontlinemei

Please dont remind me, I'm going insane AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

UnrestrictiveBeep

The biggest throw was when the spectators didn't show us Choi's 6k

sergiocamposnt

Glister's TP was perfect. Great combo.

CleverFern

I don't think they realized what was happening. Looks like it went through the teleporter

throwawayrepost13579

No replay though

Anttinpa

They did show it a bit later, it was a tp with the bomb on top of the cart

KeyserSoze011

Who is Fleta? For the blind, it's light. For the hungry, it's bread. For the sick, it's the cure. For the loner, it's the company. For the sad, it's joy. For the prisoner, it's freedom. For the poor, it's treasure. For me, it's everything.

wikipedia_answer_bot

Baltic129

Good Bot.

staceto

No Fleta is a different breed of goat

No_Statistician8636

Good bot

polloshermanosfan

Delicious pasta

MrRhymenocerous

Only complaint is, why do the blind need light?

Finklemeire

Blind cause it's dark out I guess?

richdaddy89

Crusty snickered to himself. The fusion were too busy with their pregame ritual of eating cream cheese out of a birkenstock for them to notice Crusty sneak in dressed as Heesu to grab Christofer's game plans. He got back to the shock den and unraveled the scroll. He and the ghost Nevix looked on confused, what was in front of them they couldn't comprehend. There were symbols but none that made sense. Just looking at this caused immense pain. Crusty put away the scroll, he understood

Matt-Impulse

Shanghai is just unstoppable, what a statement!

Ketriaava

I predded 3-0 for this but thought I'd be wrong.

Matt-Impulse

Me too!! Unfortunately Chengdu broke my perfect bracket

dachshund_pirate

I’m convinced the Shock do not know how to play against a Pharah comp. Just frustrating to watch.

Vince-M

"What do we do against a Pharah, magic conch?" "Nothing."

Ezraah

their anti air strategy was mei right clicks, i shit you not

Phoenxr

“Magic conch, what do we do to attack point A?” “Kill Fate” “Uh huh, and then?” “Nothing”

Otto_the_Rhino

A different shanghai did beat them with it before, so yeah that checks out.

SorakaSimp

Just as their ancestors got fucked by DDing they can relive that experience with Fleta!

magicwithakick

I miss Dding that guy was a beast on Pharah and had a sick Echo when she came out before they stuck to Fleta.

PobreBohemio

crazy to think Shanghai had both of the best Pharah players in the world on the same roster LOL

AFireInAsa

Tbh I thought Jinmu was better than DDing during that period.

fish_slap_

Shock deal with the flying DPS challenge Vs Fusion swap off Ashe and Genji challenge Tomorrow will be good I hope

tnecniv43208

Gonna tell my teamates in ranked I'm just doing the Shock strategy when I refuse to switch as junkrat vs enemy pharah

[deleted]

[удалено]

royy2010

As a Shock fan, the scariest thing to go against is a carry dps focused comp, like sombra or Pharah. They are pretty damn good against them, but those types of comps tend to find value.

beagleboyj2

It's like they didn't even learn from when they went 0-3 against Atlanta and Pelican just destroyed them when he played Echo. Shock doesn't seem to want to shoot aerial targets. Also why the fuck is ANS rotting on the bench?

Call-Me-ADD

They didn’t expect it. Left ans on the bench then didn’t adapt soon enough. It was frustrating for sure

TheBiggestCarl23

They definitely don’t. They got rolled by it on hanamura, and then just didn’t change anything and got kinda rolled by it again before they finally pressured him enough to switch.

Holsetti

I don't know how, but shock is somehow going to sign Kevin Durant to play ow next season

remmytums

Fleta got tired of dicking SF in the sky as Pharah so he just dicks them in the sky as Echo. Chad.

Phoenxr

Fleta: “Guys, I feel bad for them. I’m gonna play Tracer, at least then they’ll try to shoot me” Shock: Plays Nero on Torb Fleta: “Alright fine, fuck you.” Switches to Echo

whtge8

Shanghai winning it all this year.

JohnnyGuam13

MTD but not by Fate…..Lol

Professor_Finn

Well at least the Fusion won a map today, easy win tomorrow /s

Vince-M

Can I borrow some of your copium?

cosmicvitae

You could tell me Shock never VOD reviewed a single Shanghai match and I'd believe it

IlEstLaPapi

The problem is that they did VOD reviewed Shanghai, and yet they get rolled...

Ok_Ingenuity9277

I can vod review Mike Tyson, it would stop me from getting knocked out in the ring. Shock coach tried their best to cover dps diff.

postulate4

counter fleta challenge (very hard)

dixitsavy

It is indeed very hard

kangs

Shanghai just exposed all the Shock problems we’ve talked about all year, they need changes

tr1551

I think this is just the first year the meta is truly open in playoff time. Not just a single dominant comp. Shock won in GOATs meta S2 as they perfected the comp. S3 was hog, tracer/long range hitscan. Not saying the previous seasons were flukes, Shock are the undisputed goats, but this year is a little more open vs. previous years where they got a read on a meta early and mastered it. This year is really different is all. Plus their clutchest player retired. I don’t think it can be boiled down to “they can’t play against pharah.”

Ketriaava

You could actually argue that this is exactly why Dragons won stage 3 in Season 2. When GOATs was suddenly no longer the dominant strat, Shock struggled against it, despite almost bringing back a reverse sweep.

kangs

I think a lot of people, including myself, are reading into it too much. They simply lost important players, and apparently important staff too.

extremeq16

> They simply lost important players, and apparently important staff too. exactly. it's not like the same shock has suddenly become washed, this is a just a completely different team from the super/choi/moth/violet/striker/rascal/ans lineup, plus no junkbuck either.

p3r3ll3x

>118 comments Shanghai were unlucky with the playoffs meta last year. They didn't have a Hog abuser in the team

SorakaSimp

They've looked lost strategically all season and then decided they needed a new mental coach

Call-Me-ADD

I mean that’s not true. People complained about fdgod and the player rotations which seemed good. It more seemed that sf had no answer for a pharah comp which hasn’t been an all season issue.

InspireDespair

Glister was invisible. Nero did so much especially on illios but glister really looked outclassed

Dizzy_Spend5052

People said they were back to lol bc they dominated Toronto

konadora

when was the last time shock was full held on hanamura? cus holy shit they looked lost on that map

JonDoe_297_

Coach Moon's gigachad balls Teabagging the SF SHOCK like......

KingK0710

Fleta

darkedge4545

Fleta at the end of Kings Row just doing almost everything to secure that hold. Insane plays at the end.

Ezraah

He MTD'd Super, the greatest Rein in the world

Frontlinemei

That was honestly the most disgusting carry performance I've seen from Fleta, MTDs the two time champ cashew Delisi and proceeds to slap the rest of shock with his massive schlong

[deleted]

[удалено]

CranberryRozier

Going to have nightmares about how dominate Fleta was. Can’t even be mad. Shanghai looked filthy tonight. 3-0 score but apart from Hanamura it was a pretty good match. Shanghai looked like the old Shock squads with how they were punishing even the smallest over-aggression (or even under-aggression). Nutty team. Hoping the Shock can win a few in the lower bracket. Gg

Ezraah

He makes the kind of plays we mortals can only fantasize about.

CranberryRozier

With one duplication on King’s Row, he became the best main tank in the league.

Ketriaava

To be fair, duplication gives you 600% ult build and doesn't actually punish you for feeding.

ihateTedCruz

control was the closest map lmao

Ezraah

The Salty Runback vs the Salty Runoff GL with the lower bracket run.

mrwhitewalker

Why no Smurf today?

Ketriaava

REVENGE ON THE SALTY RUNBACK Feels so good

Ok_Ingenuity9277

Too ez

boopboopilikesoup

Shock is throwing to play Overwatch 2 early COPIUM

succulen

god damn watching fate and void dance on the point on ilios to stall for percentage was magical

Seidon29

It was a 3-0 but damn that was a good game

Nat_Feckbeard

1st map convinced me this was gonna be a banger. Sadge

Dead_Optics

Well Philly didn’t have the worse map of the day

Koolsman

Shanghai is just going to win the whole thing aren’t they?

Ok_Ingenuity9277

Most likely

jopma

Shock giving Houston vibes

Akum1

Man we gotta look out for the shock fans now theyve been hitting the copium hard lately we need to make sure they dont overdose My thoughs and prayers are with everyone struggling ♥

Kheldar166

Lip is unreal. He had four EMPs in one round of control. That’s just… not fair. In less obvious takes, I thought Fdgod actually had a quality series, he was really good on Ilios in particular. Fast beats, great beat timing, a couple of clutch boops, etc

Sifilh1

Turns out beating Toronto Defiant 10 times a season doesn’t make you a championship contender

appleruins

Toronto catching strays god damn.

Jad_Babak

If you can't catch dubs you gotta catch something

SamHPL1

So many people shitting on Toronto indirectly in this thread lol

Dizzy_Spend5052

The way they were talking about it they acted like they were a superteam lol

Pharaoh_OW

I am just sitting here

elimeno_p

Oh man I’m rolling lmao

WorthlessRain

LEAVE US ALONE

CalvesAllTheWay

Unnecessary…lol.

Waniou

Oh that's why Moon picked the Shock

lemorange

I only watched Ilios round 1 before having to go do something else, but man it was like witnessing a nuclear war. Defo gonna watch vod later.

Nankzen

Fleta literally plays Echo so perfectly, i do not think it get any closer to a perfect Echo gameplay than his.

Omnipotentls

A DOMINATE VICTORY! HUGE SHOUT OUT TO Nero.... He was shock MVP.

blitz0623

On the bright side. We get to see Philly vs SF

Mabangyan

I think we beat Philly tho Hopium Copium

Hilly117

Philly were dreadful and looked completely lost. I think you'll be fine

123bo0p

Shock 3peat more like Shock 0-3peat

BarstMain

Even though maps 1 and 3 seemed close, it never really felt in doubt for Shanghai. Just on another level. Shock just looked uncharacteristically uncoordinated and inflexible. I don’t think they’ll go far this year

Ketriaava

I had some doubts in map 1 and at the exact moment that Choi got a 5k. Not much besides that.

jfb715

Yea Shanghai’s winning it all

Anttinpa

Shanghai didn't even sound impressed when they won. They're just on another level, man

Ok_Ingenuity9277

Too EZ for Shanghai

MyNameIsCoreisTaken

Only Shock could get rocked 3-0 and have the desk say “It was a promising showing from the shock, they have nothing to feel bad about”

geostigma9

I'll be honest they just didn't want Fleta winning MVP twice, guy does litteraly everything and team kills almost every fight it's disgusting.

jail_is_just_a_room

Never once that I'm gonna thought that Super gonna get MTD by Fleta

Khran1086

Salty runback justified kinda believe rush now when he mentioned Washington weren’t their first choice.

wanboo

Shock pretending that Fleta's Pharah didn't exist in Hanamura.

TheTomatoSpeaks

MTD, that's all I can say. Fleta was the better Rein

Baltic129

That runback was indeed very salty.

Fenixmaian7

sweet and salty flavor

TrippyTriangle

Shock shitting the bed on their best map and getting rolled on king's row really doesn't bode well for those threepeat predictions.

Ketriaava

Hanamura is the map where teams go to die against Dragons. They frequently get some of their most dominant showings there.

Easy_Money_

Honestly Shock looked really competitive on 2/3 maps, Shanghai are just so disciplined with their ults, abilities, positioning, everything. GG and I’m gonna pretend that this is the grand finals matchup

Reverse2560

Shanghai Dragons the mega chads fucking did it.

TuriFabbot

lmao this team is winning it all, even with all my dallas copium

David_TalGe

Agree. I am a Fuel fan but I don’t think any team will be able to handle the Dragons. Absolutely amazing

locuss26

How the hell do you get a 5k dva bomb against double shield w/ bap?

Easy_Money_

we may never know

BOT-Jeff_2

until monday, where we get the vods lol

TheBiggestCarl23

My guess is teleporter? That’s the only way I can see 5 of them dying.

fish_slap_

Teleported surely ?

Nat_Feckbeard

Choi sent the bomb through Sym TP

royy2010

The Interact button.

Ketriaava

Fun fact, dvabombs automatically transit teleporters and cannot do so via any keybinding.

Magicrayn

I'm sorry man but fucking Lip absolutely butt pounded the entire series and the entire season. I know it's literally the first game after MVP got announced but Jesus Christ he really deserves MVP.

Binaural1

Even Season 2-3 Choi’s 6k couldn’t get the shock kings row…

PortalGunFun

sadge

lordgort

The sheer whiplash from Choihyobin dropping that bomb to Shanghai just going "k." and finishing the 3-0... oof.

AlphaOmega1356

They say genius lives one story above madness. Moon is a genius.

The41647King

That shock pick couldn’t have worked out any better. Shanghai just took the two time defending champs and slapped them silly Talk about a statement win

VosTelvannis

Why not play the torb comp from the get go? Shock straight threw against the pharah comps

politeapplepie

Lip kinda robbed tho

Dizzy_Spend5052

People really said the shock were back to being dominate because they beat the 9-7 Toronto defiant lol.

JCNoles

I feel like a lot of the shock hopium was because of the Countdown Cup play-in performance more than beating the Defiant lmao

StuffedFTW

Waiting any day now for Mr. X's undying belief in the shock to popoff in these playoffs to come true LUL.

DDRaven44

We're gonna be getting hundreds of "Shock losers bracket run incoming" comments for the next 24+ hours won't we....

Robske_

I don’t know if anyone noticed the throw on Well when Shock decided to use EMP, Death Blossom and Coalescence while having only 4 players alive and one of them was a baby dva. Imo they just should have either died or fled. This completely changed their chances of winning the map.

jonnytsunamiii

I definitely did... That emp could have been saved for the next fight

bbistheman

I kind of feel like MrX was overreacting there. The 1st and 3rd maps were very close. It's a 3-0 but it wasn't "easy"

hobotripin

There will be no angry shock this year. I'm ending the hopium and copium right here, right now.

throwawayrepost13579

Overwatch League is not an anime. If someone is bad, then they get cut. There are no redemption arcs. Villains can, and often do, win.

TimeTimeTickingAway

I don't think Shanghai should be viewed as villains.

qubert-taranto

When we were not making stupid decisions we looked alright maybe we can learn from this

ByLazarus

Okay but the Choi bomb

GuvnorJack

Shock can team diff, that’s for sure, they just don’t know how to deal with a better player on the opposite team carrying. When meta was more stable they could focus on beating their mirror, and being a good team fell in turn. Now meta isn’t as fixed, they can’t adapt to being the best at every comp and it’s showing

Nankzen

btw, i was re-watching this match, and while there was a large team difference, the dps gap was insanely huge. Don't get me wrong, Nero and Glister are an insane lineup, but they're honestly a tier below Fleta and Lip, which is nothing egregious, i think there's only 3 dps lineups in the league that can actually match them, and one of them's not even in the playoffs.
