Unfortunately, the mages aren't weak to the opposing element, they only have high defense against their same element [Source](https://www.reddit.com/r/saltandsanctuary/comments/ut0etc/psa_there_is_no_elemental_weakness/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share)

Elements in the game don't work like that. There are no direct counters to deal increased damage. Enemies don't have elemental weaknesses, only resistances. Enemies will resist the same damage type that they deal. For example, a Pyromancer (pure fire) is resistant to Fire, a Hydromancer (Cold/Dark) is resistant to both Cold and Dark. As long as you don't use a weapon with those elements against them, any other element will work just fine. There might be some small exceptions to this rule of thumb. I'm pretty sure the Terramancer resists everything. But for most enemies, the rule applies.

Other enemies are a bit more complicated. Wyrm is more resistant to cold than he is to physical damage. The worm has both fire and light def, despite using fire, not lighting.

No matter what elements they can resist, always always always stock up on fire and poison bombs before a mage / boss fight. Makes every encounter 100% easier.
