Made me laugh pretty good, even if it's fake! 🤣
Nothing ever really happens
He got ready and drove all the way to the comedy club before the message registered a new time?
Not saying the post is real but he could live nearby?
So he looked up the address of a real comedy club to make a fake post instead of just bullshitting it?
I like it. Who cares if it's fake...
Personally I just read it and laughed, without analyzing the logistical probability. If you thing everything you like online is real idk what to tell you.
I liked it cause I live in that town they are talking about lol
Is it Burlington VT?
yep lol, the club is closed now been so for a while.
Got some insider info: They're hiring to reopen as we speak!
Cool, head inside
Into the comedy club?
Yeah. Then head up on the stage and tell your jokes to somebody else.
And that's how I met your mother
They're putting in a glory hole?
nice! I'll keep an eye out.
And then there’s me noticing how there is no amount of space between the messages ‘sounds good’ and ‘hey I’m here’ to indicate time passing (something that the iOS messaging app does) as if I need evidence
It’s real I was there
Source: trust me bro
Yeah, idk why everyone cares about jokes being real. Do they think every story a standup comedian tells is real?
Guy up there took it to the observation of the gap in between the text bubbles wasn’t the right size.
It's not a comeback though.
Hey, my girlfriend is very real.
Have you ever sold stuff online? These people make the experience infuriating. The seller wasted the purchaser's time just like they're wasting his.
I tried to sell a laptop 2 years ago. The first person countered $50 when I said no less than $200.
Went to meet him, he didn't bring any money.
Second guy agreed to $100, showed up 30 minutes late and instead of bringing money, he brought another laptop he wanted to trade.
Third, this woman agreed to $100, but wanted to meet me way out of town. Cancelled on me after I drove an hour to get there. The next weekend she came to me, but decided that was the time to not budge from $20. (I'm more than $20 into gas for her bullshit at this point.)
I left the parking lot, drove to Goodwill and gave them the computer...
I don't sell shit online anymore, it's just but worth the headache.
I was giving away a bicycle for free. Barely a scratch on it, I wasn't using it and just wanted it gone. Here are some of the messages:
* Can you deliver it to me? I live 2 counties away.
* Can you replace the saddle on it, it looks worn (it wasn't).
* I'd LOVE this for my son but his birthday isn't until October (it was May). Can you hold it for me until then?
Oh god, that’s why I developed the Goodwill or goodbye mentality and started throwing away stuff more easily instead of hoarding it “in case someone can use it.”
I stopped accumulating shit I don’t think I’ll use or need long term, for the most part.
I always regretted trying to give something away unless I just put it outside and post “first come first serve. Don’t bother me if it’s gone already.” Or something. But then people still might bother you, cause reading is difficult.
A buddy of mine was getting rid of a car. $1,500 OBO
A lady asks if he'll take $500. He says nope, but he'll take $1,000. Lady agrees. He drives 45 minutes and has his wife follow. He meets the lady and she says, all I have is $500. He turned around and went home. Sold it the next weekend for $1,200.
It will hopefully teach the purchaser to stop being a time wasting asshole. BTW, you're a good person. I like you. I would never do anything like that to a good person, nor would most people. But. There are bad people. People who try to rip people off at every opportunity. I like doing stuff like that to those people to try and discourage them from doing them to nice people like you.
Wasting someone’s time for wasting your time is fair play.
This type of behavior is BEYOND far more common on the buyers side than the seller. If you've tried to sell more than 5 things online then you know how infuriating these things can be. The couple of "they offered my listing price but were 2hrs away. When I got there they said they only had $20" thing is an incredibly common occurrence.
I stand by the fake seller.
Eh, if I had told someone that the lowest I’m willing to go is $700, and then they ask if you will take it for $500 less. Do that, you deserve your fuckin time wasted.
I’m with you. I’ve sold tons of stuff online and even had people lure me to the drop off point just to continuously tell me they’re on their way for extended periods of time. People like that (and frankly people like the seller here) aren’t making the world any better. Just move on and block them (not that I think this is real, but I’m sure it’s happened). Not based on what we see, it isn’t worth it. There are plenty of times when this type of response is worth it, just not a single lowball text. I already regret wasting the time reading and commenting on it lol.
"The seller would be a massive... case" while I cant disagree that this is by far not the best way to handle this situation.. I guess you are atleast 90% correct in the statement, moving on. "The buyer... the price" Taking it from 700 which is confirmed to be the LOWEST and then going down 500, is definitely comedic, they didn't even try to haggle or slowly tick down the price to something like 600, now while I again agree that this isn't the best way I would would prefer to have seen a 700, 300, 670, 200, then following up with the location after they still didn't get it, then I think this would atleast be slightly reasonable "set a... insulted him" yeah again this is **extra** and if this were a real case I'd fell atleast a bit sorry for the person in question, I'm a very sensitive and sympathetic person so I might be a bit biased in this case, while it was extra they also had it coming, atleast in a more subtle way "I dont feel... retribution" that low of an offer is... well I wont say too much since this is a personal opinion and you are definitely allowed to have those, moving on. "Its only funny... deserved it" I wont say too much in this either since it's another personal opinion and I do agree with you somewhat, but only on the grounds that they might not have deserved **this much** retribution, especially off of a single 'offense'
All that being said, this is fictional and I can almost guarantee that in a real situation it would not have escalated nearly this much especially in a short amount of time, all this to say: it's just a meme albeit not a very clever comeback, ultimately it was only created to be enjoyed and I dont this we should look to far into it other, than saying in practical use you shouldn't do things like this without a good reason
Have a good day :)
The buyer is an asshole for making a dumb offer and wasting the seller's time
Did you really say, talking to people who said "This is fake" that they believe everything they read online?
I'm a bot
Mf used an emoji, what did you expect
"analyzing the logistical probability" okay smartass
"Your not wrong Walter, you're just an asshole" lol
I just realized these fake DMs are the new knock knock jokes
We got ourselves a historian!
There's a sub for these right? r/thathappened or something similar?
Yea, its r/badfaketexts as another comment said
And so crosspost them there. It's why that exists
That's a great comedy club though, I saw Ben Bailey there. I'm being dead ass serious. Burlington VT.
totally agree! Such a great community
Accidental ornithology was a great set
Sent from reddit for Android
U guys have a sub for everything
How is this a clever comeback? Also totally fake
This is fake. There would be a gap between “sounds good” and “I’m here” if it was 2 minutes or more. No way they got there in less than 2 minutes if he said to meet in 10 minutes.
This is fake.
Who the fuck does this shit? This is like a 14 year old's wet dream of "owning" someone in argument.
Real or fake who cares it’s still funny
And thank you for posting something funny in here
Eh, it’s alright Ig
What does lg mean here? I've been seeing it pop up more and more
It's short for "I guess".
Thanks! Kinda weird we are working towards abbreviating every phrase ever ngl, YMMV ig. BTW DTF? lol jk
I'd do it.
Wait, are we still pretending that most Americans aren’t extra large middle schoolers?
So just because they happened to use a real address you're going to ignore the other evidence that suggests this is fake?
Best I can do is $50.
I am ashamed I haven't thought of doing this to someone next time they ask me to drop the price to a ridiculously low amount! Will report back😉
Lmaooo he looks so ashamed
Mom says it's my turn to repost this tomorrow
this sub has gone to shit
How the fuck is one of the oldest reposts getting 14 THOUSAND upvotes and less than 100 comments?
The more I browse reddit, the more I see it slowly becoming Facebook level trash making the front page.
It's not just this sub, it's all the popular ones.
Lol they want her gone, that’s auth-up
A contract was formed by the two parties within the first four statements.
> Sure why not
The seller is the asshole, not the buyer.
> Lowest I'll go is $700
Which is not conclusive. A contractual agreement is, however.
The $700 remark was a part of the bargaining phase, whereas this:
>Sure why not
Were offer and agreement, respectively. Only they are binding.
This guy knows the business law
He doesn't, he just thinks he does.
Depends on the jurisdiction. Not all states and countries consider non-signed electronic communication a valid document. Some do.
Quick note, I studied Business Information Systems in Germany, part of which included a lecture specifically on contract law - focussed on European/German contract law with a quick detour about Anglosaxon contract law.
While there are many difference between German and Anglosaxon law - namely that the latter is a case law, the fundamental principles of contract law are in many aspects similar.
So, not a lawyer- I would not want claim my knowledge is perfect or even very good; but certainly not uneducated.
In Germany, for instance, this would likely not be considered binding, because it lacks a proof of identity. Digital signatures or another form of authentication must be used for it to be
Furthermore, contracts made remotely between a company and a consumer ("Fernabsatzvertrag") may be cancelled by the consumer with a simple notice up to 14 days after they made.
They are the same issue.
Assume for a moment this situation were real. The buyer assumes he entered a contract, then drives to a random location and only gets an unecessarily rude reply and a breach of contract.
IANAL, but I doubt that sarcastic statements (or statements a reasonable person would understand to be sarcastic) are legally binding.
Depends on jurisdiction.
Generally, they are if it is reasonable for a third person to assume that the intention was not of another nature.
In the given case, the sarcastic intent is not certain at the time at which the contract was agreed upon.
Given only the first four messages, a reasonable bystander might not have the expectation of sarcastic intent.
It is not uncommon for parties to agree to terms that they initially are unwilling to commit to. Certain external events might cause one party to forfeit their original position.
Furthermore, another contract concerning the delivery of the good subject of the first contract was formed consecutively, giving rise to the expectation that the prior contract was intended to be binding.
The sarcastic intent isn't certain, sure, but given the context of having received an extremely low-balling offer and the word choice used in response (I can't remember the last time I heard an authentic 'Sure, why not?'), I imagine any reasonable person would figure out that the offer wasn't meant genuinely.
Imagine, for instance, that the selling party is close to insovency and in need for at least some liquidity as soon as possible.
It is not unheard of for parties to forfeit their original position during negotiations due to, for instance, external triggers.
Even if the difference in desired return is drastically different.
"Sure why not" is certainly not limited to sarcastic discourse, and you'll likely find that it is even more commonly used non-sarcastically.
Especially since the punctuation has been omitted - the message might also be read with a "." instead of the "?" that you appended - The absence of a rhetorical question in that case is a strong difference - since a rhetorical question might be used to indicate sarcasm, but without it, it is just an ordinary figure of speech.
I'm not saying it's unheard of. I'm saying that marking an item off over 70% of asking simply because someone requested is improbable enough to lead a reasonable person to doubt the genuineness of another party's already sarcastic-sounding response.
>requested is improbable enough
Probabilities don't quite factor in here. Even improbable events may be considered genuine by a third person, because improbable things do indeed happen in real life.
Also, again, drastic price reductions are not as much of an edge case as you think they are, they might occur due to multiple different scenarios that a reasonable bystander will very well consider valid.
I already described one such scenario.
> requested is improbable enough
Probability absolutely factors in when assessing genuineness. If I walk into a Ferrari dealership and offer the salesman $500, to which he responds with a possibly mocking 'Sure, why not?', I'm going to be assessing that differently than if I had walked into the sketchy corner use car lot.
> Even improbable events may be considered genuine by a third person.
Again, never said they weren't.
I love this. Reminds me of those people asking for free earpods, barely used with the box, like fuck off!!!
That's actually really funny
Regardless, it literally made me lol 🙃! I can see it actually happening. Someone thinking they are getting a deal to end up in a Comedy Club- priceless! … hilarious 🤣 too.
Stop emoji hate ✊ emojis are characters too 🫂
Would you prefer repost? Not sure if it has been on clever comeback, but it is old.
I would prefer you to get a life
Not only fake but it's been reposted 10 thousand times
To address all the people that are saying it’s fake…congrats to you for nothing that’s right you’ve accomplished nothing. Does it really make a difference if it real or fake…. absolutely not! So go back under your bridge and troll somewhere else
So many people don’t want to laugh at something at all if it happens to be “fake.” I think of it as… a joke, I was happy to laugh at it
Us and roughy 11.5k other people thought it was funny as well
I would be very cautious ever jokingly accepting an offer. Agreements to sell are complicated but can be legally binding depending on your local laws.
Yes I know its a fake text.
Fake people .. everybody knows only screenshots with low battery indicator are genuine.
Fake as there would be more time stamps
I guess that joked must have killed the audience in the club.
Absolutely brilliant !
Wtf is XFININTY mobile, use AT&T or Verizon, or T-mobile. Lol
That’s awesome made my day 😂
There is a comedy club at 101: Vermont Comedy Club, 101 Main St, Burlington, VT 05401
I can't escape this screenshot, I must've seen it atleast a thousand times now, it's a curse
This isn’t even a comeback
Man this made me lol. I hope it’s real.
Sure hope it's fake since you gotta be a dick to waste someone's time like this over them making you an "insulting" offre. Just say no, what's the matter ?
Thought this was in r/choosingbeggars for a second there 😂
I've done this but not the comedy club part. Don't know why people think it isn't believable.
#Old but gold
Fun fact, I go to school in Burlington, there is in fact a comedy club at that address. I’m pretty excited seeing my home represented on Reddit!!
