Picked this up from my local dealership to replace the stock bulb on my gen 1 KLR 650. Seem good? Anyone have any better recommendations or opinions on the matter?

Bought the whole-hog replacement to unit from JNS Engineering. Love it. Easy to install, way better lighting and still DOT legal. It is a bit expensive, but I will never have to buy another headlight. So there's that. That's me on the left. https://i.imgur.com/QYCz4R0.jpg

Oh nice dude! Great suggestion. Your bike looks great too. See you also got some aux lights, how do those work?

Thanks for the kind words. It's been a big project to bring it back after it was neglected for a while. Sadly, those auxiliary lights were crap. I really wanted to like them, but they weren't very bright and the mounting brackets broke almost immediately. I replaced them with a brand called Chelhead (Amazon) that I'm super impressed with. The brightest lights I've ever had on my klr.

Nice work on bringing her back man. It's worth it. I've been putting in some work to mine and am actually doing a new paint job this weekend. You got a link for the lights you like? Were you able to hook them into the high beams? What is that wildshield btw?

The lights are here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H3VBF5Z?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share I ordered the round white ones, but I might add a pair of yellow as running/fog lights. The current set is hooked up through a switch and relay setup I got with a pair of lights years ago. Those lights are long gone, but I was able to reuse the wiring. Windshield is great, but I've had it for years and have no idea where I got it. Possibly a Happy Trail?

I second JNS

I've tried two different LED H4 bulbs. Both of them had the same problem with the low beam pattern. Light would be thrown to the left and right of center leaving a dark void directly in front of the bike. The high beam is incredible though. It's the exact same story on my wife's TW200. Both of them will be getting JNS housings in the near future. Riding at night with the low beam is a no go otherwise.

I've been interested in a LED conversion for a while now. After some reading on forums, I was left with the impression that they work, but the stock reflectors around the bulb sometimes don't shape the headlight beam well enough. Hope this one works well for you. Please let us know how it goes after trying it out, and congratulations on the new farkle!

Thanks mate! I've been delving into forums tonight and have come up with this same info. Seems to be an issue see with the H4 system. Hmm. I wonder what the best solution is.

I bought this one here https://odx.ca/s6-4000-lumens/513-h4-s6-6000-lumens-vendu-a-l-unite.html and it looks pretty similar It's been quite good so far. Light pattern is a horizontal rectangle with a divot on the bottom half that gets filled in by the high beam (always on for me) to create a solid rectangle. Super bright. It was $100 shipped from Canada to the US. One of the easiest upgrades I've done, zero fiddling and zero issues for the year I've used it.

Oh sweet dude, this could be a solid option. it's got the 3 sides which is great, mine just has 2. Thanks for the suggestion I may just go this route instead.
