> The official, who has already been serving as acting HHS inspector general since early 2020, received the nomination on Friday. > Ms Grimm remained in her role after being the target of former President Donald Trump’s ire after a report in April 2020 that raised concerns over supply shortages in hospitals at the start of the coronavirus pandemic. > The report had warned of “severe” shortages of coronavirus tests, as well as shortages in personal protective equipment (PPE) for frontline workers. > At the time, Mr Trump dismissed the report, calling it “wrong” and branding it “another Fake Dossier” in a tweet. > Then, around a month later, then-assistant US attorney Jason Weida was named by the White House as Mr Trump’s pick for permanent inspector general in an apparent bid to see Ms Grimm removed from the role. > Mr Weida was never confirmed to the role by the Senate, however, and Ms Grimm continued to perform the duties of the inspector general. > According to the White House, Ms Grimm has more than 20 years of experience “leading organizations, individuals, and teams to deploy creative solutions, overcome challenges, and achieve positive outcomes”.

>At the time, Mr Trump dismissed the report, calling it “wrong” and branding it “another Fake Dossier” **in a tweet**. *So glad* we don't have those to deal with any more!

Pocket_Dave

Why was he never confirmed to the role by the senate?

Basherballgod

To avoid scrutiny of Trump’s picks. So many of the officials were acting and deputy picks, so that way they didn’t have to be scrutinised.

It’s always a half-measure with Trump. Like he did so much shit but it was always half-baked like his exec orders. Anything done by Trump was just shit quality on already dumb, corrupt shit ideas Whereas Obamacare has literally stood up against an entire party’s insane pathology against him…because he did it right. And complete. Because Obama was an adult with an actual attention span

He sure did hate people who blew the whistle on his failings. Good for her! She deserves the job.

Candidate Trump vowed to eliminate corruption, "drain the swamp", then proceeded to operate the most corrupt administration in the history of the United States.

And was cheered for it by his many, many supporters.

Hiring extreme talented and competent people just to own the conservatives. /s

I'm a Brit and I still get a small knot in my stomach when I see the word 'Trump'. Thankfully that happens less and less over here. Lots of positive stuff about Biden though!

CShellyRun

He is the equivalent of the Bloody Mary chant we used to say to the mirror in a dark bathroom to see of she would pop up….

I know the DOJ and the NY AG are working on it, but this isn't enough. Trump HAS to go down!

amyaverey

I personally feel there should have been more investigation done to find out the truth behind Trump’s statement before President Biden nominated Christi Grimm as inspector general of the Department of Health and Human Services.

Regardless of good intentions, it's important to nominate the \*best\* person for the position. And the best person for the position is probably not a Republican. If you must nominate one, make sure they are a minority. They'll muck up everything otherwise.
