[Transfer Round Up and Discussion] Summer 2021

theramblingred

Very happy with the window even if no more incomings- feels like Jesse and Andreas sales are still achievable and would finish off the window well. Obviously I prefer getting a DM who can distribute the ball well and shield the defense but maybe the board has decided there is no one available who would be the right fit. I wonder if we’re back in for Trippier in the winter window, feels like we’ll need time to see if AWB and Sancho can combine well on the right side.

miamibuckeye

We wont win trophies with McFred starting or either of them playing the 6 alone

nullpost

Well it seems we will find out this year. All holes basically fillled aside from that. Hoping for an injury free season.

miamibuckeye

I don’t need to see this year, we aren’t challenging for the title with our current midfield. Just isn’t happening. Anyone who think Mctominay is close to good enough is actually delusional if they watch matches

haaala

We will indeed, but I fear OP will be proven right... That is just not a good enough midfield 2, and neither can play as a lone DM meaning we don't even have tactical options. We'll be signing midfielders next summer, 100% guaranteed. Look at it this way, how many other PL teams would be looking to sign those two? Maybe the promoted clubs, or those who think they might go down, but not anyone else. It's a poor selection.

theramblingred

Yes, frustratingly it feels like we’re just one player away…

cowabunga_dude91

Lukaku is just a money-grubbing whore. Always on the move. Never a club legend type of a player

Shinzendu

I think it was pretty widely known he was a boyhood chelsea fan

[deleted]

Yeah how dare he do what’s best for his career

systemsruminator

Dude it's business at the end of the day. For them. Like we don't change jobs in our careers.

tameoraiste

Why are people arsed about the Varane announcement? I really don’t understand it. He’s a United player, so who gives a shit?

Rffx

its 2 days away from leeds Match and unless its officially announced he wont join training with the rest of the team. its that really hard to understand?

tameoraiste

At this stage, it makes fuck all difference. He won’t be starting against Leeds so no need to get pissy about it.

superhoffy

The only valid gripe imo is that all these holdups are stopping him from joining first team training.

euoi

FWIW he may have already joined training and we just don't know

systemcorp

Yeah that's not how it works

nedlogb94

Apparently he was training today hence why we got zero training pictures

MrImRumble

I would imagine if someone seen Varane out on the training pitch, it would have been leaked. Terrible at keeping secrets lol

usamapervaiz

IF WE DONT ANNOUNCE VARANE I AM gonna ask again tomorrow

CirocVodka

We have ANNOUNCED varane tho. This is what I don't get with you lot. He's already signed so now we all want him dragged out like a show pony to prove that we haven't actually signed a cardboard cutout of varane?

euoi

I swear we hired Stephen Spielberg to make the best player announcement video ever... that must be why it's taking so long.

systemsruminator

Given the state of the Sancho, they better have. Sancho video, after all the waiting was a big let down IMO

MrImRumble

Takes of time to perfect the explosions and CGI. Definitely makes sense.

metblack85

Plus do you think YOU could learn piano over night? Varane needs at least a week for piano lessons, and that's if he's doing it 8-10 hours a day.

Dr-Cloudy

Varane directly to be unveiled on match day squad! Surprise motha fuckassssss!

TheAlmightyKrot

Big Bad Rapha giving Lukaku a head start before he pockets him. 👍🏾

MrImRumble

Raphael decided to let the chip on Lukakus shoulder grow bigger by letting him have all of the attention just to pocket him in the United vs Chelsea match

pimpychimp

No training pics today…I have a feeling Varane was training with the team this morning after signing and now they’re just waiting to actually announce it publicly for some reason

superhoffy

If he has trained, I don't care about anything else. If, however, it's true that he can't join training because of media/trending topic/PR/Jonesgate, it just emphasises how they removed "Football Club" from the badge really. LUHG.

systemsruminator

Could not be arsed about the fact that we haven't announced Varane yet. Dude already subbed MUTV and wore our jersey. For me that's better.

Rffx

agreement 2 weeks ago and theres still people defending the club lol. he could've been in training already and the opening games is in 2 days! jesus christ are they struggling to make more annoying announcement video or what

lomosaltadomo

We don't want annoying announcement videos with shitty music. Just put up a picture with him in a United shirt. Done.

Rffx

yeah i hoped he's already training this week lol. incredibly stupid to delay him training and built chemistry with maguire as early as possible

TheRedDevil10

Romano has said the contract has been signed, it's just the social media team holding it up. God knows why though, it's getting annoying.

nallyn

Does Varane need to have a shirt number to be announced? Maybe Phil Jones is refusing to give up the #4.

kueerseoa6

They just released a video about Harry lol, I’m jumping into the fucking canal

systemsruminator

Bye

view_sauce

Feel like I'm the only who couldn't care less about announcing Varane, the deals + medical done and he's here.. every time we do a big announcement it bites us in the arse anyways.

TheAlmightyKrot

Announcement would mean he's ready to train with the team and possibly be available for Leeds. It has gone unnoticed amidst the chaos but we have no first team centerbacks atm beyond Barry and Victor. I'd take unfit Varane on the bench as a precaution.

Mancchestar

I don't know if you's have watched it but the overlap fan debate with neville carragher and Keane is brilliant. Keane is such a fucking character. Edit - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egViFX6w5gk - this was class as well.

Eldini

I just googled it, 1h for part 1 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=XrD1Jgg1aT8 Might have to watch that in a bit

Mancchestar

Yeah currently watching it. Really good so far tbh. I only intended to watch a bit whilst I did a bit of work and one hour later ive put my laptop down and just watched the whole thing ffs.

kueerseoa6

God I’m fucking pissed

lomosaltadomo

I wasn't too concerned about the Varane announcement and had some patience. But it seems like the United way of doing business is creeping up again and work is proving too hard to handle efficiently for the executives. You would think that they would be able to handle contract stuff while Varane was quarantining and all. But the inefficiencies are back. I bet there is an issue with image rights, I would put money on it. Oh and we still haven't sold any of our players and the season starts in 40ish hours. Varane should have been on the training ground 2 weeks ago. By the time Varane's deal was agreed on July 27, Messi fell out with Barcelona, came to an agreement with PSG, signed for PSG, had a medical, was announced, and trained.

its-a-real-name

Turns out it is image rights in the end.

VKDNyke_

Don't image rights come under contract negotiations with the club? Don't think that's an issue. I know Madrid used to take image rights bonuses but they immediately terminate that's stuff after the player leaves the club. Unless he has another image rights agreement with someone.

CirocVodka

How have we not moved on Andreas at this point? He's basically publicly said he wants to leave if needed in order to play and you're telling me you can't find an Italian club to take him for 8-10m? Lingard for 15m? Surely someone in the prem could afford that, which is generous with him being in last year of contract. Ridiculous how shite we are at selling.

theramblingred

Italian club paying 8-10? Nah they’re probably all pitching loan with an option to buy right up until the end of the window. I really feel like Jesse ought to get us 20 mil but andreas feels like we’ll be lucky to get 5.

swattie62

Can someone give me a level-headed explanation as to how Messi (Spain -> France) and Lukaku (Italy -> England) can happen so quickly and yet Varane had to quarantine for a whole 5 days let alone the announcement delay?

VKDNyke_

The quarantine procedure probably has something to do with him shifting his whole family or some other COVID regulation. There is something that is stopping us, don't know but it's starting to get on my nerves. Spain and France have easier travel regulations? Plus Lukaku doesn't have Visa issues.

Rascha-Rascha

Anyone actually think Lukaku is worth 100 mill? Good, better now than he used to be, a fantastic striker, but, 100 mill? For a 28 year old who seemed to be what, their third or fourth choice option behind Haaland, Kane, and Lewandowski? I take great pleasure in seeing United playing the role of the team that's sitting back, getting relatively cost-effective deals for really good players, while other rivals have been looking a little bit desperate for any big name they can find. Much like last season I think their money would have been better spent elsewhere. In Chelsea's case they need to get a top CB over the line, they probably need a better keeper, they might need something else in midfield. They signed well last season, but City's only real need for me this time round was replacing Fernandinho properly, and I don't see what Grealish brings them that they wouldn't have gotten from a combination of Foden, Torres/Sterling, Bernardo, Gundogan. I'm starting to question the decision making, but ours, at least on paper seems pretty solid. We might have to be patient, I don't think our squad as a whole is as good as City's, but we're quietly adding quality first team options and allowing young players to grow.

haaala

Well 100m no, seems silly money. Except, they do need him. He will do really well for them. They've got great creativity and need someone to stick it in the net and he will do that. Tuchel seemed to sort out the defence last season making signings less relevant, and their midfield is crazy strong so no signings needed. City started using 4231 last season making Fernandinho less vital. Rodri was signed as his replacement already, not quite as good as a lone DM, but him next to Gundogan in their new system proved very effective. Won the league. We are slowly building a great team but we're not quite there yet. So glad our recruitment is sensible these days though. Huge change from the last few years.

varwal

100 mil is definitely shut-up-and-wrap-this-up-soon money. No way is worth that, no way would that have been the lowest inter would have accepted given that they're strapped for cash.

GoldbridgeDub

Murtough can't even sort out Garner and Williams loans he might be worse than Woodward.

Dayandnight95

Promoting from "within" was always going to be more of the same. I never bought into this new efficient structure nonsense.

Revolutionary-Beat-1

This rebuild is going way too slow , it's oles third season , the team should be ready to go for the title .

Witter87

It's going perfectly fine ffs, we can't all spend 250m every transfer window. there was a lot of rebuilding to be done and it's been near perfect since Ole came in apart from not getting Sancho last summer but Dortmund was asking for too much

suvsandstethoscopes

We're literally 1-2 players away from where we need to be. Add to that the fact that we've stopped paying over the odds when we feel it's not worth it, we've cleared some deadwood (more to go, I know), we're balancing our wage structure better, and we're seemingly signing players who actually want to be here. I'd rather we did things this way than go full Galactico with players like di maria (who don't want to stay here) or players like Ibra (who are great but don't take us forward long term).

Revolutionary-Beat-1

Considering the fact that our two center backs will be 29 next season , and one of them is pretty slow already , so we will have to get a new one in two years. Our midfield is shit aswell and we are depending on what Pogba whatever the hells wants to do , and we are gonna need a new striker next season , seems to me like a never ending rebuild . We should sort the midfield this season not next one , the midfield can carry by itself the team to a premier league title .

Shehan_22

How fast did Jurgen Klopp’s rebuild go?

kuromahou

Imagine if we go into the first game, and Varane isn't announced still, and Ole has to answer questions about that. What a fucking shambles that will be, and I don't put it past our back office to make it a reality.

D1794

I'd rather Ole be quizzed about it live than be drip-fed some information regarding contract issues from journalists who couldn't care less

D1794

I had been quick to defend the process but it's been 15 days since agreeing a fee and we still don't have a picture of the lad holding up our shirt to confirm the signing, it's ridiculous. Especially with the clear lack of transparency with fans

kuromahou

It's actually concerning. What is the holdup? If it's contractual, why is that happening now? What have we been actually doing for these past 15 days? It just has the feeling of someone dropping the ball somewhere. I'm not even excited anymore, I'm genuinely concerned.

D1794

I'm not concerned. I think there'd be far more noise if there was an issue with the deal and don't think it'd have got as far as him moving to Manchester (which we have proof of) and going in for a medical (which we've been told happened) Just more frustrated that we've managed to turn a quick and efficient transfer into a bit of a circus, with no explanation given. We didn't know if he had to quarantine or not, we only found out late there was a visa issue, we've no idea why it wasn't done yesterday when it was supposed to be and at 6:30pm the following day we still know nothing.

Lingardinhooo

How the fuck have we not announced Varane yet? Even when we’re competent, we’re incompetent

nwrige95

The meltdown here from the Lukaku announcement is so weird to see.

Mancchestar

I mean the weird thing is how long it's taking us to announce players this summer. It's almost as if the club know that this is the last signing and they're trying to draw out the interactions through social media by teasing. Usually it's agree terms, medical, contract and announced in the space of a few days.

theramblingred

I don’t see it as that big a deal- I was happy to see us making big moves relatively early in the summer, it’s hard for me to care about when the social media team posts about him on Twitter. Or am I missing something?

Shinzendu

They haven’t teased anything though

Soccerfreakgod

No way they announce Varane now with Lukaku's takin the spotlight

meganerid

lol Lukaku really announced before Varane xD

iFiraz

Lukaku gonna score hattrick against us now isn't he

systemsruminator

Getting pocketed by Varane with Slabby tapping him on the back with pity.

iFiraz

Subscribe

Shinzendu

No

Rashkata

We probably wanted to announce Varane after Lukaku’s announcement just to ruin the hype around his transfer /s

TheW1ckedWolf

How is Lukaku announced before Varane?

slick_schmuck

We have made some quality signings this summer. But fuuuuck me, all the excitement for those players have been sapped out by time it takes to announce the players.

Vixtol

I get the frustration but if Varane is the difference between winning or dropping points against Leeds then we didn’t deserve to win anyway

GoldbridgeDub

Maybe Varane failed his medical

[deleted]

It's already done and reported that he passed...

Shinzendu

Pretty sure that would have been reported

GoldbridgeDub

There is still time

JimWolvie

No Romano reported that Varane had completed his medical and signed the contract without any issue. It’s just up to the club social media team with whatever they are cooking.

IHaveGiantsBlood

What's the actual hold up? Is he allowed to train while they sort out this "announcement"? Because he's missing out on valuable training time. He finished 2 fucking medicals already.

EK077r

Depends completely what the hold up is. If it is missing details from the contract being finalized I can't see him training with the squad.

Shinzendu

I’m sure a social media post isn’t preventing him from training

Dayandnight95

Messi and Lukaku saga both began and ended after Varane was agreed weeks ago. If you don't laugh you'll cry.

Shinzendu

Fucking hell the state of you

Dayandnight95

Why are you whining at me when there are several other comments expressing similar sentiments. Go bother them.

Shinzendu

You’re the first one I saw and it was the most pathetic one

Wide12

Is Varane a figment of our imagination?

Avatarflash

It gets tedious that the social media side of the club is run by buffoons

Vixtol

Why, what have they done wrong?

akshatsood95

Hahahaha Chelsea have announced Lukaku before we've announced Varane. If you don't laugh, you'll cry

rioferd888

Sometimes I wonder what the narrative on here would be if we took a whole summer to sign romelu lukaku for a record fee no less, Whilst previously missing out on Haaland, Kane and Lewandowski. Amazing the double standards and mental gymnastics that go on.

akshatsood95

Would definitely be negative but I think Chelsea are on a high post the CL success so their fans are not very negative right now. Winning a few trophies certainly changes everyone's mood about a lot of things

iahtam

IDK, maybe similar to missing out on Sancho after spending the entire summer chasing him and getting Amad and Pellestri instead?

RepresentativeNo379

Right now, the transfers I am looking forward to are Kane to City and Mbappe to Real for stupid amounts. That would basically gives us free way to Haaland on the cheap next year. Like the Sancho deal this year.

rogues69

Lol mate city and PSG can spend 100+m on a transfer every year. Wtf are you on about

Dayandnight95

Eh, Barcelona could get him. Haaland dad was already in Barcelona at the beginning of the summer.

deadbedroomaddict

Wages are going to be an issue for them for a while.

Dayandnight95

I guess it's possible, but honestly even PSG could try for him.

1bryantj

FFP is done, along with honest football. PSG got a load of free players this season. Can imagine they will just go in for him, or maybe another oil club

deadbedroomaddict

My fear is PSG, they can offer ridiculous wages.

Dev-C--

Precisely what I was thinking. But the issue is Perez is wanking at the idea of playing haaland and Mbappe together. That’s possibly the only threat

RepresentativeNo379

Look at their transfer business this year. They may not be in a big mess like Barca, but still far off from the Galatico era. Having Mbappe would take out most of their fire power.

exaill

At this point, its quite certain that pogba will leave for PSG next season for free. They obviously want him, and him playing with messi and possibly ronaldo(if mbappe leaves) might be quite the incentive to run his contract down. That's not even mentioning the huge sign up bonus and salary he would get ... yeah he's definitely gone.

HappySisyphus22

[Sean Wright-Phillips thinks that Ben White is a better signing than Varane. Lol](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/ben-white-raphael-varane-transfer-24742333?utm_source=whatsapp&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=sharebar)

Ruudvankeano

Started off at the emptihad and never looked smart during and after his playing days.

zakattack799

Pain who wants to bet a tenner we ain’t signing anyone else

darklordreigns

Where the fuck is Varane. This club knows how to kill any joy over new signings.

The_Caped_Baldy

Gonna be so strange to see Ramos and Messi celebrating together. Imagine if PSG draws Madrid in the Champions League and Casemeiro takes Messi out only to have Ramos stand up for him. On the other hand, City planning on bidding 150mil for Kane. Fucking oil clubs gonna ruin football man.

fofo8383

Remember FFP? What a joke that was

The_Caped_Baldy

FFP is a joke. I honestly don't understand how teams like PSG and City can do this sort of stuff and not even be affected.

brownbilal

can someone announce Varane pls

Pluto27

VARANE

kueerseoa6

They better not delay this announcement until tomorrow

tameoraiste

According to Fabrizio, Man City are preparing a £150m bid for Kane. I never thought they’d pay that much for him. It’s an arms race between the two oil states.

papagib

The way I see it is, that city get Kane, Chelsea have Lukaku. If the reports are true that Haaland wants to play in the PL it’s us or Liverpool and with our connections to him, I think we would be the favorites to sign him next summer for half of what City and Chelsea paid.

systemcorp

€150m

tameoraiste

Why would Man City be paying Spurs in Euros? He quoted £150m

systemcorp

Dude lmao just check his tweet

tameoraiste

Yup, you’re right. Apologies.

cowabunga_dude91

Fuck oil clubs!

_smoothbrain_

It's funny how we've added Sancho and Varane after finishing 2nd and it still feels like City are so far ahead. If they add Kane then the league is already over.

melli_closter

City are pretty much pushing the limit of their potential now if they get Kane. They've got a squad deep with talent in every position (bar maybe leftback). Unless they pull a blinder and get Mbappe/Kimmich or some similar top drawer transfer in that vein in the future, they're looking at marginal progression from now on. We've taken a big step forwards with Sancho/Varane but we've still got room to improve a couple of key positions. If we add a top midfielder and manage to get a top longterm striker (Haaland) next summer we've got a damn good team ourselves that I'd fancy against anyone in the league, including City.

rioferd888

We must also improve organically. Our young players must continue to get better and more consistent. That is how we can overcome any oil state team

FriedRicewtEgg

Lol and messi is already training and hanging with Ramos. i think united need a video team

tissuecat

Varane where

Soccerfreakgod

Just unveil Varane already ffs..

Thevanillafalcon

Couple of things, Varane is done in that the contracts are signed so maybe Ole was talking about additional signing. Also on Varane and Sancho announcements taking time, could be covid related? As in the media team themselves are short staffed or having to do various bits from home etc.

ManuPasta

They’re not going to announce Varane on the same day as new kit launch. Tomorrow boys

systemcorp

Makes no sense lol. I'd slap the PR guy if he said Varane can't start training because the kit launched today.

Shehan_22

He might’ve trained either ways tho

systemcorp

Not with the team I don't think so.

superhoffy

With the team tho?

VaderHater21

They really nailed the kits this season. That being said, UNVEIL VARANE!

Dacsy492

Are there away fans at the game Saturday?

[deleted]

Suddenly Luckhurst in now Tier 1 or what?

PauIPogba

No

Jrie0

Hearing that we are planning on loaning out Amad is so disappointing. The fact that we are keeping Dan James and giving him more time than Amad who has so much more to his game is really disheartening. There’s a reason Atalanta were high on him and gave him game time and instead we’re prioritizing Dan James over him.

rioferd888

Amad is really young and needs regular game time.

[deleted]

the DJ slander on this sub is off the charts >here’s a reason Atalanta were high on him and gave him game time 38 minutes in 1 year. lol.

prss79513

You're tripping, we would be giving Amad MORE time by loaning him out than if we kept him

bigtice

I understand this opinion to an extent, but while Amad may have the higher upside, he hasn't played regularly to know what we'll get in terms of consistency. Letting him go on loan is the better option as it will give him more regular minutes allowing him to further improve his game. While James may not be great, Ole knows what to expect from him whenever he brings him on and can utilize him accordingly, but Amad will be more useful in the long term.

KaitoAJ

or maybe Amad needs consistent game time to develop even more whereas Dan James is happy to be a bench player? There are tons of factors and reasons to consider before saying that Amad going out on loan is bad.

MaybeIShouldSleep

Atalanta didn't give him game time. Dan James didn't have a tonne of minutes either last year anyway, and we've got a new winger since then. Better amad go out on loan than only get one or two cup games.

Witter87

Shit if true. I can see him going to a shit team and it ruining his career, I think he's too good to be loaned out

Jrie0

Agreed, he’s too good to be loaned out and I think he’s already better than James

Buffythedragonslayer

Amad never played a full season of first team football. He only had 38 minutes of Seria A when we bought him. He needs regular full season game time. He won't develop with some minutes and a Carabao game every now and than

Jrie0

While Rashford is out he should be one of the first subs off the bench or start in FA cup or Carabao cup games imo, he’s a real talent

rainbowrathode

Anyone know what the Leeds fans are saying about their preseason? How are they shaping up?

Rffx

bielsa is sulking over haggled transfer so i think Saturday will be fine

Stingray_23

Any news on Varane? Last I heard there was a few contract points to finalise after he passed the medical yesterday. IRC we had a very similar situation when Sancho completed his medical.

Wandering-ike

Apparently he’s signed now per a Romano tweet and just pending official announcement. Hopefully will be later today and the teams are just finalizing the press releases and promos.

Stingray_23

Lovely news mate, cheers

Trade_Dramatic

Do you think the board cares about winning trophies or just top 4? Like imagine Ole finishes 4th, doesn’t win anything and never gets sacked. We’d be mediocre forever

goto_man

4th spot is not acceptable with the current squad unless he wins the CL or both the domestic cups. However, if we finish 4th and the gap between 1st and the 4th spot is less than 5-10 points, I guess that would be ok IMO. Obviously, we must go deep in the cup competitions in that scenario.

lsaltori

Username checks out

Buffythedragonslayer

Do you think you ever have a positive opinion about the team? Like imagine Ole finishes 1st but only on goal difference. Or you'd be unhappy forever?

Trade_Dramatic

How am I being negative? Its a valid question

ofuje

Dude is one of the most negative accounts on here. I just don't understand

xus131

Arsene wenger part 2.

gibbo82

We’re gonna leave signing a DM until transfer deadline day ain’t we!?. And… that’s if we’re lucky! 😏

Initial_Share

Apparently garner has turned down a new contract offer

Banyunited1994

I hope he's just holding out for more cash. We can't rly sell him at this stage and in this market for anything significant, and im a little disappointed he's not looking at the state of our midfield options and fancying this chances next season if he does well on loan.

humanvintage

Any solid links to players leaving?

SlytherinMan9

Delay is due to piano teacher showing up late. Once he teaches Varane then video will be released.

CuddlyBear89

Any updates on Amad? Is he going out on loan?

wrecxy

Potentially.

liableAccount

I think Varane announcement will be tomorrow, before the market closes for the weekend.

Buffythedragonslayer

Kinda has to. 12pm BST is deadline of registration if he wants to be in the squad

viditp011

He can be registered irrespective of the announcement video. The announcement is a media event anyway

euoi

He is already probably registered since Fab said he signed the contract. Media time is just taking it's time. Not sure if he will train today/tomorrow though

They’d probably get Ipswich in the quarters
