Ask a dumb question…

haha vegan bad
Based on what? Lettuce 🥬
Yes, vegans are Plant-Based
i mean if it’s like specifically a steak restaurant or something then sure
edit: my bad i did not consider the possibility that there were others at the table they were hanging out with
Steak restaurant usually have a token vegan dish. It saves the day when you badly want your steak and your vegan friend is ok to take the hit once in a while.
Same way wine bars will have grape juice for those just coming along.
I like that places have one vegan thing but they really need to have at least two. I at least want to pretend that I have a choice in what I eat.
Wdym there's always two things on the menu for us vegans at steak places - fries and salad
Being vegan is not a choice?
It is. Kind of like not drinking alcohol. Every bar has several non-alcoholic options.
Don't be insensitive. Suggesting that it's a choice completely invalidates the experiences that vegans go through. I myself remember realizing I was vegan. Telling my friends and family, being judged for who I was. But of course I love being vegan, I wouldn't choose to eat meat even if I could.
Not sure if joke...
Of course it's a joke
Haha yeah, it can be hard to tell through text some times
Super random but the wine bar I work at has a Cucumber-Honey Lemonade that's fucking delicious. But yeah, a lot of the time people don't choose the restaurant, and why wouldn't a steakhouse want to sell some high-margin veggies to the birthday girl's vegan friend?
Yes, good taste often works on the other genres too.
Even if that hypothetical scenario was true, they’re both sitting on the same side of the table, indicating they’re likely part of a group. I’ve been in a steakhouse before and just had fries, and was still able to hang out with my friends. The “joke” is absolutely just “haha vegan bad.”
A few years ago I went to SF for a conference and I had just gone vegan. There was one other person who was a vegetarian in our group but everyone else was normal. Most of the group decided to go to a steak house. My choice was either go find my own dinner or be "that guy". I just went and got a burger.
a vegan burger? doesn’t sound too bad if you had access to that
Theres a store near my house that only does vegan burgers. Were talking beef burgers, fried chicken burgers, fish burgers, add bacon, cheesy bacon fries on the side. A vegan, its my favourite food.
Its pretty frustrating for the vegans too, we definitely don't want to be in a steakhouse.
Why not make them all baby murderers while you’re at it? What do you gain by making up this ridiculous scenario and getting yourself all worked up about it?
I just order potatoes or a salad at steak places. It's tough not eating meat and being social, but I'm happy to just hang out if nothings available.
The steak restaurant around the corner from me has the best vegan burger I’ve ever had. My wife and I go to that steak restaurant semi-regularly and I’ve been vegan for 20 years.
God forbid they have non vegan friends or family. They need to just stay home and eat grass
Lol, wouldn't it be awful and just hilarious if someone, get this, *were vegan*? Haha!
What morons, trying to have their own dietary preferences. Stupid losers, eat the flesh of your enemies like the the rest of the world
the problem is not their own dietary preferences, the problem is that they go to a regular restaurant and expect to be treated specially because of their dietary choice. look at the menu, see whats suitable for you and ask for it, don't make everyone run errands for you because you made a decision in your life about your eating habits. and when there's no options for them, sometimes they flip out, they come with the usual "that's not inclusive" bullshit and how they gon leave a bad review on tripadvisor
You know most vegans are just normal people right?
yeah I am also in hospitality/catering in London and meet a lot of them daily :D
Fair enough, it’s just I know a few vegans and they’re all just reasonable people. Maybe you only notice the shitty ones so you assume that they’re the majority
yeah cuz the non shitty ones go into a shop to buy something and go on with their day, not go in, ask whats vegan, show faces, say their opinion(no one asked) and leave. you can be a vegan and shut the fuck up. it was even worse when I worked in an ice cream shop, where they tried to protest against a small business(whose consumption is non-existent compared to big chains, its literally to feed a family) for "raping cows" and "supporting animal abuse" and even found something to mock about the name of the business. that's how low the bar is for them.
there's nothing wrong with them just *asking* what's vegan. if you have special dietary preferences it's perfectly normal to ask a waiter about the menu. (the meme here just shows them asking)
check if theres vegan options BEFORE you go into a restaurant
Oh no, the waiter has to hear a person *ask* a question about the contents of the food, and they have to *answer* the question about the contents of the food! *THE HORROR!*
Sounds like a nightmare, I don’t know how people can deal with the public
usually they can do their protest outside of the shop and we didn't do anything with them, their business, but there were occasions where they came in to the shop, talking to the customers faces loudly that they should be guilty for supporting suffering etc while all they wanted is just to enjoy a nice ice cream on a hot day. that's when we need to de-escalate(usually not successful cuz they just keep repeating their shit like parrots) and then the police gets called out and they go away
It's a shame when people's approach is shitty and customer facing staff get the brunt of it. Especially a shame when it gives people a bad general impression, which is a natural human to do.
At the same time I can understand their anger at what happens to animals to get these products and they just want people to wake up to it.
I'm sure you're aware, but it's not *just* a dietary choice. It's more an ethic principle (of being against animal abuse and trying to reduce our infliction of it as much as possible) which happens to be greatly muddled in with our food.
How do you know someone eats meat?
Don’t worry, they’ll tell you.
Me: eating quietly
Them: you don't eat meat?!?! What about fish???? What about milk???? HOW DO YOU GET PROTEIN AND WHAT DO YOU EVEN EAT?!???!?
Me: no I don't eat meat. I eat fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts, processed junk food...
Them: okay but why would you do that to yourself??????? Don't you miss ChEEsE?
Me: long story short I love animals, a lot
Them: Well jeez why do you have to make such a big deal about being vegan??!?!?
\-literally no one, ever
Summed up version of fucking so many conversations I've had. I just want to be left alone but people don't shut the fuck to about it when they find out
You are actually correct though as this isn't an exact conversation I've had with anyone, so quite literally,
-no one ever
>Summed up version of fucking so many conversations I've had.
If everywhere you go, and it smells like shit, maybe its your shoes
All I'm saying is that I'm not a vegan who is asking everyone else to be vegan too. I'd like for meat consumption to be lower in my country, I'd like for factory farms to stop existing, but I don't ask other people to cut meat out of their lives if they don't have a problem killing animals.
For the most part I want to be left alone about it
Last job I had they didn't know I was vegan for two years. Wasn't until a pizza party and I declined eating the pizza, they asked if I was vegan.
Got a lot of annoying jokes about it and for a solid week wouldn't be left alone about it.
In any given group of people the loudest ones will usually set the stereotype. Hence the "vegan will tell you when they are vegan".
All I'm trying to say is that on the opposite side of things- often times other people are making it a bigger deal than I am
Yeah sure you want to be left alone, people wont shut up about it, they joke with you for 1 week about it. You are either surrounded by assholes for 99% of your time OR you are heavily exaggerating, trying to feel important
Do you have a single ounce of self awareness?
You’re calling u/nwg442 a liar and that “no one actually harassed you about being vegan in real life”.
While you’re fucking harassing him about being vegan.
He's also in another part of the thread complaining about all the vegans he meets.
Theres 0 truth in what you just wrote down. I didn't call anyone a liar, I said he/she/it exaggerates(which is admitted in their later comment). And if this is harassing for you, then good luck for the rest of your life, dealing with human interactions.
Shut up lol
I live in America's dairyland... Probably not the best choice as a vegan, tbh.
And honestly, I don't get as much shit about it anymore. It was definitely more common to get shit on in college.
But yeah there's a lot of assholes here
Maybe I'm exaggerating a bit. It's a good thing for me to be aware of honestly.
I'm just trying to get the point across that many vegans really don't like to be attacked about it.
And that many of us aren't making as big of a deal about it as other people.
Aren't you the one who just complained about how you meet so many rude vegans?
many =/= most i meet
Maybe it's your shoes.
Literally had that exact conversation but about vegetarianism. I'll always pretend "but where do you get your protein?" is being asked in good faith because it's a great chance to educate people.
I see this type of shit whenever vegans come up so yeah, peoples do it
This is America
Dont catch you
But I thought Kate was vegan?
Cheapest joke I've seen in a long long time
Why is it a question?
This waitress is being veganphobic /s
Lmao I love how this turned into vegans sucking each other off. They just can't stay away when someone makes a joke.
"We are white, what should we get"
"The fuck out"
"Haha I can't believe the comments turned into white people sucking each other off, what do you mean it's racist, it's a joke you snowflakes"
You're right. You really are a persecuted race aren't you?
Nah, I'm very far from being white, just used them as an example, because usually it's them who complain about stuff like this
But this meme is a pretty stupid joke
I wasn't talking about white people.
This should be at a kazillion upvotes
